I've used "my yahoo" for about 7 years to save lists of music/video because it was useable through my work firewall. I attempted to log into it today and it now requires a monthly payment to Rhapsody.

Is there a better option out there preferably with no month charge?
Guild Wars 2 :: Reserving Your Character Name for Guild Wars 2

Subject: Reserving Your Character Name for Guild Wars 2
Posted: Thu May 17, 2012 2:12 pm (GMT -5)

Ever since we announced the Guild Wars 2 Pre-Purchase program and Headstart Access, we’ve had a lot of questions about how name reservation will work for existing Guild Wars players. Here’s how it will work:

Character names in the Guild Wars universe work differently than they do in most other MMOs. Whereas in most MMOs character names are unique only within their world/server, in Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2, character names are unique across the entire game. In Guild Wars 2, when a player acquires a name like Wizardex, he or she is acquiring it across all worlds. Clearly this places more importance on grabbing the name early.

Today no one actually has the name Wizardex, because all character names from the original Guild Wars were two words or more. All one-word names will be up for grabs at the start of the Guild Wars 2 Headstart Access period. But there are currently 20 million two-word names in use by existing Guild Wars players. We need a policy that allows dedicated players to hold on to their established names, while freeing up the bulk of names for the rush of Guild Wars 2 players who will come into the game at launch.

Thus our policy will simply be as follows: to preserve your character name from Guild Wars into Guild Wars 2, you must be an active Guild Wars player (more on that below), and you must create a Guild Wars 2 character with the same name as your Guild Wars character during the Headstart Access period or on launch day.

After launch day (and after we work through support tickets filed on launch day), we’ll free up the millions of unclaimed names for new Guild Wars 2 players to use.

To implement this name reservation system, we need to build a list of the character names of active Guild Wars players that we’ll reserve through launch day. We actually need to build that list a few weeks prior to the launch of Guild Wars 2.

So we’ll use the following very generous definition of active: Guild Wars players will be considered active—thus having their Guild Wars names reserved and available to claim during Headstart Access and on launch day—if they have logged into the game at least once between January 1, 2012 and the day we build the name reservation list.

We’ll warn the community before we build the list, but that’s irrelevant, because there’s no reason for anyone to wait. If you want to reserve character names from Guild Wars into Guild Wars 2, log in to the original game now so we know you’re active!

We’ll see you in-game,

The Guild Wars 2 Team

http://www.arena.net/blog/reserving-your-character-name-for-guild-wars-2

I notice it says "name" and not "names"
This is hugely popular atm and is meant to be amazing fun. I know some people here have ArmA2, have you tried this? you basically start with a can of beans and a gun, and it's permadeath. Average life expectancy is 29 minutes atm ;p

Great vid, i just got linked it at this position but worth watching until the end.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=KRpPIyJDSEQ#t=766s

Writeup: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/05/14/surviving-in-day-z-part-two/
"A large part of the internet is telling Day Z stories. People feel compelled to communicate what they’ve experienced in there. There’s a good reason for that. This unfinished modification is more interesting than 90% of games that will land in the same year. It is a game that – for many people – represents this kind of experience we were promised. An open-world, persistent, zombie game, where survival is the goal, and where each encounter with another real human being is a moment of terrible tension. What’s astonishing about this unassuming zombie mod is that it manages to take what is most interesting about MMOs – persistence, co-operation, risk of genuine loss in PvP – and add them to a multi-server FPS. Not just any FPS, either, but the monstrously deep simulation provided by master soldier sim, Arma 2. It’s unflinchingly bleak. It offers freedom, while threatening destruction. The stories that result from it are enthralling."

Amazon currently has it on 50% offer: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003UV8RRE?t=slicinc-20&tag=slicinc-20

And it's the top selling game on Steam, it always seems to be up there in the top 10 even after 3 years, and DayZ is part of the reason.
Is anyone playing?

First time I've played the Diablo franchise. I had no issues logging in, maybe because I pre-ordered/activated?. I created one of each class, and stuck with the Barbarian.

So far, it's a lot of fun. The sound and graphics are pretty good. Very fluent with max graphics.

I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard has PvP for Diablo 3 on the drafting board.

Thoughts?

I'm still annoyed at how they're portraying Daenarys(?) on tv. She's a whiney little brat now apparently.
Holy frikkin shit - what a finale. Really thought Sir Alex was going to end up backing into the title this year but somehow Man City pulled it off. It certainly wasn't from anything QPR did wrong - I mean they had *44* shots against, and actually went up with 10 men! How clutch is Aguero? How much of a thug is Joey Barton? Despite QPR staying in, think Barton will be looking for a new home next season?

I'm an Everton supporter, so I was just happy to see the Toffee's finish out on a great note - but heck if that MC/QPR match wasn't fun to watch!
Subject: PS3 YLoD
Posted: Sun May 13, 2012 5:33 pm (GMT -5)

Anyone else get this problem? Skyrim apparently broke my PS3. I was playing it last night for 5-10 min. when my system powered down all of a sudden. I was able to restart and try again, only to notice it was shutting off right after starting Skyrim. I gave up until later today and fired it back up only to have it shut down again 5-10 minutes in and now I get nothing but the YLoD.

I always was a fan of PC over consoles, especially for large world games like Fallout and Skyrim, but my fiancee prefers the console and loved the other elder scrolls games.

So now I am sending it in for repair somewhere because I don't have the patience for disassembling my PS3, buying a heat gun and some arctic silver, and praying I don't fuck up anything, much less to then put it back together afterwards and God forbid it still wouldn't work. I'd light the damn thing on fire.

Just wanted to vent - we don't have cable, as we use NetFlix instead, and if Skyrim was at fault as opposed to a system design flaw (or if Skyrim exacerbated a system design flaw,) there is nothing saying that it won't happen again. So it looks like a 60 dollar game on a console is now costing us a hell of a lot more. Fuck everything about this.
Subject: Potato salad + coleslaw!
Posted: Sun May 13, 2012 4:14 pm (GMT -5)

Since summer is fast approaching and many of us enjoy bbq's, or parties whatever, thought I would throw in some recipes that I have used over the years. Simple things like a good potato salad or coleslaw are sometimes hard to make.

Coleslaw-

1 small head cabbage, shredded or chopped, whatever way you prefer it
3 medium carrots, shredded
half a small onion, diced
3 stalks celery, diced

Dressing

1 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar

Simple salad. Get a big bowl, put ni cabbage, onion, celery and carrots. In another bowl, mix mayo, sugar, and vinegar and blend well with a stick mixer, or use a blender to make it. Pour over the salad, and mix together. Let it chill in the fridge for a few hours and done.

Potato Salad

Around 2 pounds of potatoes.
1/4 cup of relish
1/2 cup of mined onion
1/2 cup of minced celery
1/2 cup shredded carrot
4-6 hard boiled eggs depending on preference
salt to taste
pepper to taste
fresh parsley - optional

Dressing

1 c mayo
1/4 c of sugar
1/4 c apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons of yellow mustard

1. Boil large pot of water, Peel potatoes. Cut in one inch thick pieces. Boil until you can stick a knife through the pieces easily. Drain. Slice into quarter inch chunks. The potato should still be firm, not falling apart and mushy.

2. Blend dresing ingredients together in a blender or bowl with a stick blender.

3. In a large bowl add carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, relish, salt, and sliced hard boiled eggs, pepper and parsley. Reserve two of the eggs if you wish for appearance. Add dressing then mix. Add remaining hard boiled egg slices on top of the salad, cover and put in fridge.

Best way to boil eggs- put eggs in a pot, cover with water, put on stove over medium heat, cover, when it starts to boil, turn off the heat, and let the eggs sit in the water for ten-fifteen minutes. Remove from water, let cool and then peel. Eggs from the store are easier to peel than fresh eggs.
I did the $18 option, cheap as chips!
Looking pretty cool, not your typical high fantasy style RPG. I know it's been mentioned here before by Hoki but there is only a few days left to get it at a fantastic price by supporting it early.

http://www.grimdawn.com/

Grim Dawn is an action role-playing game intended for digital distribution on the PC. It is being developed by veterans of Iron Lore entertainment, the makers of Titan Quest. Grim Dawn is being built with Crate's own improved version of the Iron Lore engine and toolset; the same technology used to create Titan Quest. As a spiritual successor, Grim Dawn will attempt to better perfect the magical formula of exploration, character advancement, and loot collection pioneered by Diablo.

Players will be thrust into the dark, war-torn world of Cairn where a once proud empire has been brought to ruin and the human race driven to the edge of extinction. Cairn has become ground zero of an eternal war between two otherworldly powers, one seeking to use human bodies as a resource, the other intent upon destroying the human race before that can happen. This cataclysmic war has not only decimated human civilization but is warping the very fabric of reality and, in its wake, giving life to new horrors.

For humankind it is the dawn of a grim new age where iron has replaced gold as currency and the importance of salt as a weapon makes it far too valuable to waste on food. Small enclaves of human survivors exist scattered throughout the world, holed up in hidden refuges. These humans have quietly watched the warring invaders destroy one another and have become wise to the strengths and vulnerabilities of their otherworldly foes. A few survivors have begun to exhibit strange new abilities after surviving possession or exposure to the warp. These unnatural powers are feared by some but give many new hope of launching a resistance to fight the "outsiders" and reclaim what's left of their world.
I just learned yesterday Dom (Hellonice) passed away. I am not sure how many are still on here that remember Dom but he was one of the first Fallen Souls member.

I met Dom and Alan (Vehnum) IRL for a camping trip back in 2004.. was a fun time.. and fun time gaming with them.

It was strange.. back then there was no ventrilo or whatever shit people use now.. just text.. to play with people for at times 8 hours a day on just a game and they become friends. I still talk to the core FS group from time to time.. Dom will be missed.
Just wanted to let the old Palomides Community know..

Or to take it even further "per pale ar. and sa. chevron counterchanged between three fleurs de lis, impaling Erminois a lion rampant"

I know what chevron counterchanged and the fleurs de lis are but wtf is the rest of this shit. Anyone got a clue what that would look like?
